I can be a cheap bastard. What I mean is, I play this game for two reasons: The first is pvp. The second is to chill with my friends…preferably while also pvping. I never got into the other isk-making activities eve offered; I tried a couple of times but always ended up wanting to chase the battle high that only EvE can give. That means, for a CEO, I was often the poorest pilot in our corp.
Khell found this endlessly funny, and was constantly trying to give me stuff. An abyssal mod here, a faction mod there. A pirate or trig hull to play with. Knowing how generous he is, I often demurred, not wanting to accept free stuff knowing he would absolutely start foisting expensive things on me if I let him get away with it. Instead, I redirected his generosity to the corp.
Which he did with wild abandon.
Fully funding our SRP program. Helping build and bring in handout fleets. Buying our first round of corp dreads. Privately covering losses and giving isk to new and returning corp members.
We chatted about this several time through the years, about how I felt rich because he filled our house with luxury. His response was always, “well, we’re fucking Playboys aren’t we?”.
I still have 2 ships in my hanger that he gifted to me (by hiding them in random contracts for other stuff). A fully abyssal + faction Vargur and a Marshal (if you know Khell, you know about the Marshals). 2 of the most expensive ships I’ve ever owned.
When I tried to give the Marshal back, he just said, “Don’t get penisy. You’re the CEO. Dress like it”. To this day, that Marshal is still my most treasured in-game possession.
Its name? “Dressed to Kill”. And the advice? Still sound – don’t get penisy, and dress like you own the place. Because you’re a fucking Playboy.
